Marketing salaries in Europe (2026)

From growth marketer to CMO — what marketing roles pay across 17 European cities in 2026.

Marketing pay in Europe splits into two very different markets. Performance, lifecycle and product marketing roles — the ones with a measurable revenue line — have pulled 15–25% ahead of brand and communications roles over the last three years. The gap widens with seniority: a Head of Growth and a Head of Brand at the same company can sit two pay bands apart.

Geography is the second lever. The same Senior Marketing Manager job is worth roughly double in Zurich or London compared to Lisbon or Warsaw, and about 40% more in Amsterdam than in Madrid. Cost of living closes part of that gap but not all of it, which is why relocation and remote-from-southern-Europe arrangements remain common.

The tables below show gross annual base salary bands per city and per role. Bonus is typically 10–15% for managers and 20–30% for director level and above, and is not included in the base figures.

How to negotiate in Europe

Bring a channel P&L to the table

Marketing offers move most when you can show spend you owned and the return you generated. A one-page summary of budget, CAC, pipeline and revenue influenced is the strongest negotiation asset in this function.

Anchor on a range, never a single number

Give the band you researched for that exact city and seniority, and place your target at the lower third of it. A range signals you know the market; a single number invites a counter that lands below it.

Quote the city, not the country

National averages hide 40–60% spreads. Saying 'the Amsterdam band for this scope is €X–€Y' is far harder to dismiss than 'the Dutch average is €Z'.

Negotiate the whole package

Base, bonus, equity, signing bonus, pension contribution, remote allowance, training budget and holiday days are all negotiable — and often easier to move than base when a company runs strict pay bands.

Let the employer name a number first

If asked for expectations early, answer with the market band and ask what range is budgeted for the role. Most European postings now have an internal band even when the ad does not show it.

Bring evidence, not need

Tie the ask to scope and results — headcount managed, revenue influenced, systems owned — not to rent or personal costs. Hiring managers can defend results to finance; they cannot defend need.

Get it in writing before you accept

Confirm base, bonus mechanics, review timing and start date in the offer letter. Verbal promises about a raise 'after six months' rarely survive a manager change.

Marketing salary FAQ

Which European city pays marketing best in 2026?

Zurich pays the highest gross marketing salaries in Europe, followed by Copenhagen, London and Dublin. Adjusted for cost of living, Munich, Amsterdam and Madrid often leave you with more disposable income than London.

How much more does a Head of Marketing earn than a Senior Marketing Manager?

Typically 25–40% more base, plus a larger bonus percentage. The jump is biggest in scale-ups where the Head of Marketing owns the full budget, and smallest in large corporates with tight pay grids.

Is performance marketing better paid than brand marketing?

Yes, at manager and senior level — usually 10–20% more, because the role carries a revenue or CAC target. At director level and above the gap narrows as both report into commercial outcomes.

Do marketing bonuses count on top of these figures?

Yes. All numbers here are gross annual base. Add roughly 10–15% bonus for manager level, 15–25% for head and director level, and equity in venture-backed companies.
